Pet Wellness Care

Wellness Exams

Pet Wellness CareAt Broadway Veterinary Clinic, our focus is on preventing illness and disease. To best prevent illness, we recommend that your pet undergo a complete wellness examination at least once a year, although more frequent exams are encouraged.

During an exam, we perform a "nose to tail" evaluation of your pet. The information we collect during an exam allows us to spot the signs of disease and illness and treat them before they can adversely affect your pet's quality of life. Wellness examinations allow us to establish a baseline level of your pet's health and this information helps us treat your pet more effectively if he or she comes in for emergency treatment.

Most importantly, wellness examinations help us establish a relationship with your pet. During an exam, we get to know your pet and learn about his or her lifestyle, personality, health risks and other important information. Examinations are an excellent opportunity for you to learn more about your pet's health. The veterinarians and staff at Broadway Veterinary Clinic care about your pet - that's why we make follow-up calls to check on your pet whenever he or she visits the hospital.

Vaccinations

Cat VaccinesVaccines are the cornerstone of your pet's preventive health care plan. Many diseases once fatal to pets can now be prevented through the use of vaccinations. We provide vaccinations for dogs, cats and ferrets. Because your pet is unique, we tailor a vaccination plan that reflects your pet's lifestyle, risk factors and exposure risk. We administer vaccinations based on the following guidelines:

Vaccinations for Dogs

  • 6 Weeks - Parvovirus vaccination
  • 8 Weeks - Distemper combination vaccine, which protects against Distemper, Adeno-2 virus, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza and Corona virus
  • 12 Weeks - Distemper combination vaccine booster
  • 16 Weeks - Distemper combination booster and Rabies vaccine
  • 1 Year and Older - Dogs one year old and older that have had previous vaccinations receive the three-year Distemper combination booster and a three-year Rabies vaccination.

Vaccinations for Cats

  • 6-8 Weeks - Feline Distemper combination vaccine, which protects against feline rhinotracheitis, calici, panleukeopenia, chlamydia psittaci
  • 12 Weeks - Feline distemper combination booster
  • 16 Weeks - Feline distemper combination booster and feline Rabies vaccination
  • 1 Year and Older - Cats one year old and older that have had previous vaccinations receive the three-year feline Distemper combination booster and a three-year Rabies vaccination.

Parasite Prevention & Control

Parasites aren't just a pain for your pet - they can harm you and your family, too! External parasites like fleas and ticks and internal parasites like roundworms and hookworms are zoonotic, which means they can affect people as well as pets. Other parasites, like heartworms, pose serious health problems to your pet. Our staff members are knowledgeable about flea, tick and heartworm prevention. We offer a variety of flea and tick and heartworm control products, including Frontline, Advantix, Heartgard and Comfortis, and we offer shipping on these products. All dogs should receive heartworm preventative year-round because mosquitoes can appear during warm periods of winter and, once a dog becomes infected, heartworms are life-threatening. Fecal testing, for detecting intestinal parasites, is recommended each year for all pets.

Lifestage Wellness

Puppy and Kitten CareAs your pet ages, his or her health care needs change. Puppies and kittens have veterinary care requirements that are far different from adult dogs and cats or senior pets. Broadway Veterinary Clinic offers special wellness packages for puppies and kittens and senior pets.

Puppy And Kitten Care

Broadway Veterinary Clinic's special Puppy and Kitten Wellness Packages include nutrition counseling, preventive medicine and therapeutic diet samples. These exams include diagnostic tests (to detect the presence of parasites), nutritional counseling and client education opportunities.

Senior Pet Care

Pets age faster than people. Your pet is considered a senior at ages seven and older. Older pets require regular preventive care, including wellness exams, blood tests, and diagnostic services (including x-rays and laboratory tests). You are an important ally in your senior pet's health care. We encourage you to inform us of any changes in your older pet's behavior or lifestyle so that we may take appropriate measures, before these changes affect your pet's quality of life.

Nutritional Counseling

Whether your pet has special dietary needs or simply needs to shed a few pounds, our nutritional counseling services can help keep your pet in good health. Broadway Veterinary Clinic stocks a full line of prescription pet foods and specialty diets, including Hill's Science Diet, Purina Veterinary Diet, Iams and Ivet.

Pharmacy And Retail Center

Your pet has access to a variety of prescription medications in our fully-stocked veterinary pharmacy. Your pet's prescription often is ready at the end of his or her appointment. Our retail center is stocked with collars, leashes, veterinarian-recommended shampoos and conditioners, dental products and even cat-nip mice for your feline friends.

Pet Identification - Microchipping

MicrochippingIf your pet goes missing, you want him or her returned home as soon as possible. A microchip is a simple, effective way to ensure your pet returns home safely. Identification microchips are about the size and shape of a grain of rice. Microchips are implanted beneath your pet's skin, usually between the shoulder blades. Each microchip is encoded with unique information about your pet; this information is stored in a national database. Veterinary hospitals and animal shelters across the country are equipped with special scanners capable of reading these microchips. If your pet is lost, the microchip is scanned and the information is used to reunite you and your pet. Broadway Veterinary Clinic uses the Home Again microchip system.
