Veterinarians
David Gatz, DVM
Dr. David Gatz opened Broadway Veterinary Clinic in 1991. A general practitioner, Dr. Gatz knew he wanted to be a veterinarian from an early age. Both his father and grandfather were veterinarians, and veterinary medicine and animal care have been lifelong passions for Dr. Gatz.
A native of Kansas, Dr. Gatz attended Kansas State University and received his Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science in 1980. He continued his veterinary education at the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1984.
Dr. Gatz is involved in many veterinary organizations. He is a board member of the Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society and is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association and the Kansas City Veterinary Medical Association.
At home, Dr. Gatz has a number of pets that keep him busy. His animal companions include a border collie mix named Cheerio, a German shorthair named Tucker, a hound mix named Sybilla, cat named Pepe Le Pu, and several chickens. Dr. Gatz and his wife Cindy, the practice manager at Broadway Veterinary Clinic, are the proud parents of two children, Bethany and Aaron. He enjoys reading and playing golf in his spare time.
Peggy Hensleigh, DVM
General practitioner Dr. Peggy Hensleigh has cared for pets at Broadway Veterinary Clinic since 1993. She loves animals and enjoys helping the pets and the clients that come into the hospital each day. She particularly likes forming long-term relationships with pets and clients.
Dr. Hensleigh grew up in Leavenworth and attended Kansas State University. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science in 1981. She continued her veterinary education at the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1984.
An active member of the community, Dr. Hensleigh is a 4-H Club leader and a member of the Jefferson County Humane Society. She and her husband Robb, who is also a veterinarian, are the proud parents of two sons. Their family also includes eight cats, two dogs and two horses. She enjoys gardening in her spare time, as well as canoeing and camping in the Ozarks. Her hobbies also include farming and weaving. She also likes to cook for family reunions.
